HAMPTON - Edward C. "Ted" Abbott died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001. He was a member of the class of 1935 at Tilton School and became a contractor and builder in his hometown of Tilton, N.H., before coming to Hampton, Va., in 1952 to join his brother, the late George C. "Skid" Abbott, in business. He was the manager of Gordon's Trailer Court. He and his brother also operated the Antique Bed Shop at Buckroe. He was a master carpenter and cabinetmaker. He was a member of First United Methodist Church; the Hampton Rotary Club, where he was presented the Paul Harris Fellow award; and Doric Lodge No. 78 of the Tilton, N.H., F. & A. M. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy Howe Abbott and their four children, Sandra Abbott Stroud and her husband, Dr. W. Jefferson Stroud, of Hampton, Judith Abbott Tongue and her husband, the Rev. James M. "Jim" Tongue, of Virginia Beach, Chandler E. "Chip" Abbott and his wife, Pamela Kern Abbott, of Poquoson, and Elizabeth "BJ" Abbott of Hampton; 10 grandchildren, Lauree Stroud Purcell and her husband, Steve, and daughter, Hannah, W. Jefferson Stroud Jr. and his friend, Melanie, Sarah Tongue and her husband, Michael Harbrook, Elizabeth Tongue Little and her husband, Rob, James Matthew Tongue and his wife, Meredith, Jonathan Edward Abbott and his wife, Katy, Jason Chandler Abbott, Carrie Cutshaw Tutone and her husband, Tommy, Nathan Abbott Cutshaw and his friend, Lindsay, and Aimee Frances Cutshaw. A funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in downtown Hampton by the Rev. John B. Morris. Burial will be in the Parklawn Cemetery in Tilton, N.H. The family will receive friends and family from 7 to 8 p.m. today at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of First United Methodist Church in Hampton.
