HAMPTON - Francis (Frank) J. Roach, 88 of Hampton passed away December 5, 2013 at the Hampton VA Medical Center. Frank was born on November 18, 1925, in Wilmington, Delaware to Leo and Catherine Roach. He has resided here since his family moved to Phoebus in 1928. He served in the US Army during World War II and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart in the Battle of the Bulge. Frank was an office machine mechanic at Ft. Monroe and Ft. Eustis until his Civil Service retirement in 1981. Frank was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Hampton Elks Lodge 366, Moose Lodge 1119, DAV Chapter 13 and the VFW Post 3219. He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings and a granddaughter, Brooke Tangney. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Frances Pearce Roach and their five daughters and spouses. Diane Clair (James) of Jinja, Uganda, Emily Tangney and Nancy Strickland (William) of Hampton, Janet Brunelle (Robert) of Newport News and Frances Jacobs (Craig) of Roscommon, MI; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild and his beloved cat, Miss Kitty. He is survived by four siblings, John, Bertha, Cecilia and Bernard. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-7:30 PM at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home, 245 S. Armistead Ave., Hampton, VA 23669. The funeral will be held at 2 PM, Monday, December 9, 2013 at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be in Parklawn Memorial Park.
