RICHMOND, VA - Fred M. Danford, 85, went home to God Wednesday, July 2, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. He died peacefully at his daughter's home in Richmond. He was born September 19, 1928, in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of Charles E. Danford, Jr. and Louise Bowles Danford. They predeceased him, as well as his brother, Charles E. Danford III, his nephew, Charles E. Danford IV, and his sister, Patricia Danford Pelham. His beloved wife of 49 years, Julia Jernigan, passed away July, 13, 2003. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy Danford of Richmond, VA; sister-in-law, Marie Danford of Conyers, GA; nieces Laurie Danford Tyson of McDonough, GA and Sandy Thompson of Winter Park, FL. He's also survived by several great nieces and nephews: Daniel Tyson of Dallas, GA; Donnie Cox of Demorest, GA; Shane Cox of Daleville, AL; and Kim Henderson of Dothan, AL. Mr. Danford served his country as an Army Master Sergeant in Korea from 1951 to 1952. He retired as a Sales Manager from CSX in 1982. He then joined the trucking industry as a Sales Manager and eventually retired from Everett Express in Norfolk, VA. He was a Past President of the Tidewater Transportation Club. Mr. Danford was a trustee of Ivy Farms Baptist Church and both trustee and deacon for Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Newport News. Mr. Danford was a wonderful, great man. A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 27th, at Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church. Gravesite services will be held Wednesday, July 16th, at Springfield Cemetery in Jakin, GA. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in his honor and memory either to Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, or the SPCA.
