WILLIAMSBURG - George R. Allen was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 2, 2014. He was born on April 7, 1926, to the late James and Pearl Allen. He was also preceded in death by his wife of fifty-three years, Lucille B. Allen, his brother James Allen, Jr. and granddaughter, Tammy Jefferson. He proudly served his country with the United States Navy, during World War II. Upon leaving active duty, he embarked on a successful career as a Missile Mechanic at the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station. After retiring, he worked as an auto mechanic at Roy Rhodes Service Station and Jamestown Exxon. As his family and friends can attest, he had a great sense of humor and was quite a storyteller. He knew everything about anything. He was a member of the Apostolic Church and he loved reading the bible. . He leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Brenda Mines (Pastor Steven) and Gloria Jean Green; his sister, Claretha Drakeford (John); his step-daughter Shirley Baker; his foster daughter, Ella Bartlett; his sisters-in-law, Mary Robinson and Shirley Allen; his 17 grandchildren, including, Gregory Walker (Tatrina), Benjamin Walker, Jr (Lisa), Kim Greenhow, Darrell Jimmerson (Mary), Tonya Robinson (Mike), Antonia Burton (Xzavia), Tressa Green and Demetrias Green; other loving relatives and many caring friends. A funeral service will be held 12 noon on Monday, March 10, 2014, in Whiting's Chapel with Pastor Cooke officiating. Interment to follow in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Allen may be viewed beginning on Monday at 10:00 a.m. until the hour of his service.
