NEWPORT NEWS - Jerry died suddenly Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, in his Newport News home.

He was born Dec. 9, 1939, in Dublin, Ga., and moved to Newbern, N.C., before settling in Virginia. Jerry graduated from N.C. State University and was one dissertation short of receiving his Ph.D. He worked at NASA for 33 years as an atmospheric physicist and after retiring, taught math for several years at Thomas Nelson Community College.
Jerry is survived by his older brother, Ed Hill (Kay); younger sister, Dottie; five children, Felicia Gialenios (George), Jerry Hill (Stayce), Wayne Hill (Ramona), Mike Hill, and Mary Romano (Rob); and 12 grandchildren. In addition, Jerry was engaged to his beloved, Tina Ellis, and leaves behind her four boys, Mark Ellis, Michael Ellis, Christopher Ellis, and Steven Ellis, as well as their children.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News. The family will receive friends following the service until 12:30 p.m. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
