NEWPORT NEWS - Harold Walter Moyer, 99, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013. He was born December 20, 1913 in Massillon, Ohio to Charles and Clara Moyer, was a resident of Michigan for over 50 years and had been a resident of Newport News since 1992. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1935 with a Metallurgical Engineering degree. Mr. Moyer was a Major in the U.S. Army in Europe from 1942 to 1945 and retired in 1979 after 32 years of service from McLouth Steel Corporation, Trenton, Michigan as a Vice President of Quality Control. He was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church and was active in Gideons International. Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Helen Moyer; he is survived by his four children, Sharon Drew of Boca Raton, Florida, Marsha Six of Newport News, Naomi Moyer of Boca Raton, Florida and Charles Earl Moyer of Grosse Ile, Michigan; six grandchildren, Robert and Michael Drew, Scott and Matthew Six, Lindsay and Alexander Moyer; and one great-grandson, Elijah Six. The family will receive friends at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel Sunday, January 6, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. A funeral service will be held at Resurrection Lutheran Church Monday, January 7, at 11 am followed by a reception at the church. Interment will be private.
