NEWPORT NEWS - Harry T. Gregory 'Papa,' 81, of Newport News passed away early Sunday morning, Nov, 11, 2012.
Harry was a native of Staunton and a Peninsula resident for the past 60 years. He served his country as a soldier in the U.S. Army, as part of the Germany Occupation Forces after WWII and during the Korean War. He was a member of Parkview Baptist Church and American Legion Post #25. A collector of guns and clocks, he will be remembered for his garden and the BIG tomatoes he used to sell. He loved the outdoors.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry T. and Margaret Gregory; his brother, Billy; and his sister, Betty.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of over 58 years, Mary L. Gregory; a daughter, Shirley Farmer of Hampton; two sons, Harry T. Gregory Jr. and his wife, Karen, and Timothy M. Gregory and his wife, Joanna, all of Newport News; sister, Marie Morganthal and brother, Roy Gregory, both of Staunton; eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight, Nov. 13, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Parklawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Rusty Beck officiating.
