NEWPORT NEWS - James Edward Davis, 86, of Venice, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 16, 2013. Born on August 4, 1926, in Halifax County, VA, he was a longtime resident of Newport News before moving to Florida 7 years ago. He will be remembered as a dedicated husband, loving father, and doting grandfather. He was the son of the late Mozzelle C. Davis and Edward W. Davis. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Sylvia D. Davis, and a brother, Fred R. Davis. He is survived by his two devoted daughters, Charlotte D. Latta and her husband Wayne of Venice, FL, and Deborah Turnage of Columbus, MS. Also surviving him are three grandchildren, Scott Latta and his wife Tricia, Jason Latta and his wife Laurel, and Kelly Carter and her husband Brian; and four great-grandchildren, Trenton, James, Tannin, and Avery; brothers, Linwood B. Davis, Roy O. Davis, and Garnett B. Davis; and a loving sister-in-law, Joann, who called him her brother. He retired as superintendent from McLean Contracting Company after over 40 years of service. He also served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during World War II. A graveside service will be held at 1pm, Saturday, February 23, at Peninsula Memorial Park, 12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA.
