POQUOSON - James "Jim" M. Obernesser, 59, Coast Guard Commander (Retired), passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012. He was the son of the late Dr. Charles and Frances Obernesser of Utica, New York. Jim served in the U.S. Coast Guard for 22 years, received his Masters of Environmental Science degree from the University of Michigan, and served the Coast Guard for 10 years as a civil servant. Jim was known best for always being there to help his friends, coworkers, neighbors and family. In addition to his parents, his sister Christine predeceased him. His wife and best friend, Jane; his son, Scott; his twin brother, Charles; his brother, Mark; and his sister, Karen Bannigan; all survive him. Funeral service and interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
