James Mize Obituary

GLOUCESTER - James McKinley Mize, 66, passed away at home on Thursday, November 14, 2013, surrounded by his family. He was born in Marion, VA and was a resident of Gloucester for 24 years. James was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Edith Mize. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Evelyn Mize; daughters, Tina L. Wise and husband, Joe, Teresa Benefield and husband, Tim; granddaughters, Leah and Sara Wise; sister, Becky Hill, and husband, Wayne; and grandmother, Verna Schmidt. James was retired after 42 years of service from Newport News Shipbuilding as an X32 supervisor. He was also a veteran of the army who served during the Vietnam War and received two purple hearts. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of James' life will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, November 21, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to offer special thanks to Riverside Hospice of Gloucester. Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of condolence with the family.
