CHARLOTTESVILLE - Jane S. Maddux 64, of Charlottesville passed on Saturday June 7, 2014 in a local hospital. Jane was born May 11, 1950, in Richmond, Virginia. She grew up in Blackstone, Virginia and graduated from Kenston Forest High School. She graduated in 1972 from Mary Baldwin College with a degree in Political Science which fostered a lifelong love of her country and the freedom which allowed for happiness in her daily life and the ability to worship her God which she believed was one of the greatest gifts of Life. She went on to attend and graduate from the Sorenson Institute. Jane's family was truly the center of her life. She and her dear husband Johnny were married as college sweethearts and thus began a lifelong devotion to one another. Their deep and abiding love was known to all and they demonstrated their mutual adoration in their daily life. Jane deeply loved her children, Millicent and Little John, and her grandchildren brought endless joy to her life. Jane had more friends than she could count, and more acquaintances than she could ever know. With her beautiful smile she warmed those who reveled in the good fortune of her friendship, and strangers too, often became her friend after the briefest meeting. Jane had a myriad of talents which she unselfishly shared with her community and beyond. Her endeavors often thrust her into unknown situations but she always relished a challenge. She was owner and manager of a small business. She embraced politics and the role of public services as a means to affect change, and she had the political courage to run for state senate in 1999 and again in 2001 during a special election. Her dedication to conservative principles was well known and she was an active member of the Republican Party for most of her adult life. She also served in many other capacities that included: Junior League of Nashville, TN and Charlottesville, president and active member of the Charlottesville Garden Club, one of the founding members of Party Parade, founding member of Martha's Market, The Contemporary Club, the development board of Martha Jefferson Hospital, headed up Pink Polo for Breast Cancer for three years, development board of Mary Baldwin College, founding and board member of NEW (Network of Enlightened Women), two terms on the Virginia State Medical Board, on the Board of Visitors for Longwood University as well as the chairman of the presidential search committee for Longwood University and rector elect. Jane loved to tend to her beautiful gardens, embraced her bible study group, and handled a shotgun very well on the skeet course. She was a truly remarkable women that was able to do just about anything and did it with grace, humility, and elegance.
