NEWPORT NEWS - John W. Blandford, 75, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013. He was a native of St. Louis, Missouri and had been a Newport News resident for many years. John was a U.S. Navy veteran. He worked at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown. In 1992, he retired from CACI International as a Technical Director. John was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church where he regularly led the Rosary Ministry before Mass. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus #511. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary P. Blandford; daughters, Kimberly B. McDermott and husband, Kevin of Newport News and Julie B. Dye and husband, Troy of Yorktown; sons, John S. Blandford of Newport News and Michael P. Blandford and wife, Sandy of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and 9 grandchildren, Johnny, Emily and Logan Blandford, Joey and Tierney McDermott, Michael and Kyle Blandford, Colby and Hannah Dye. A funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 22 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, with Rev. Henry Diesta officiating. Burial will follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
