NEWPORT NEWS - John Wesley Wainwright III, 76, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Hampton Sentara Careplex, surrounded by his family. Born 11/29/36 in Newport News, he was the son of the late Helen B. and John Wesley Wainwright Jr. John is survived by his wife, Judy M. Wainwright; brother, Thomas Wainwright and wife Toni of Providence Forge; sister, Janet Kessler and husband Shirley of Poquoson; two children, Deborah Wainwright of Jacksonville, Florida, and Kevin M. Wainwright and wife Candi of Quarryville, PA; and grandson, Seth Daniel Wainwright of Quarryville, PA. He was preceded in death by his son, John Wesley Wainwright IV. John attended ODU and graduated from the NASA Langley Apprentice School. He retired from NASA after more than 25 years of service as the Head of Construction Management. He received many awards for his contributions and service. John enjoyed playing the steel guitar and was a member of the Country Playboys band during the 70's. Following retirement, he worked as a Home Designer for many local builders. He also enjoyed travel, gardening, and remodeling his home for 50 YEARS!!! He was a very creative person with a GREAT sense of humor. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 PM, Saturday, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, immediately followed by the Funeral Service at 1:45 PM by Rev. Charles Jones.
