PLAIN VIEW - Joseph Chapman, 88, died peacefully at his home, in Plain View, on Monday, March 10, 2014. He was born on September 17, 1925 to the late Alex and Estelle Chapman. Joseph was a lifetime of the Union Prospect Baptist Church where he served on the Trustees and Ushers ministries. He served in the Korean War. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth C. Chapman; an infant daughter; brothers and a sister as well as a special friend, Edith Williams. Joseph was very passionate about his gardening and craftsmanship. Give him a piece of wood and he would make you anything you want. Joseph was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed. He is survived by a daughter, B. Alice Dixon (Terry) of Mathews; a granddaughter, Ashlynn Dixon; a great granddaughter, Zareah Gresham of Shacklefords; a sister, Alease Peters of Richmond; a brother, Johnny Chapman of Alexandria and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral service will be 3:00p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Union Prospect Baptist Church, Cologne. Interment in the church cemetery with military rites. The viewing will be 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:00p.m. to 7:00p.m., Friday at the J.K. Redmond Funeral Home.
