POQUOSON - June Sparks Kump, age 94 years, of Poquoson, Virginia, departed this life Friday, July 19, 2013. Mrs. Kump had long suffered with dementia, and sustained a hip fracture after a fall. She was born June 17, 1919 in Connellsville, PA. She was married to Benjamin Franklin Kump, II, who preceded her in death September 5, 1999. Surviving are two sons, Benjamin Franklin Kump, III, and wife, Ann, of Apple Valley, CA; Christopher B. Kump and wife, Laura Ann, of Richmond, VA; two daughters, Betty Scott Spalding of Chattanooga, TN; Marcia Mitchell of Charlottesville, VA; eight grandchildren; and several great grandchildren. June grew up in Washington, DC, and was a graduate of Sonoma State College in Sonoma, California. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Poquoson City School System for many years. After she retired, June also volunteered at a local GED center well into her mid-eighties. Mrs. Kump was a long term member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Poquoson, VA. She loved to dance, travel, play bridge, spend time in south Florida, and visit with family. She also loved sunsets, music (especially classical), theater, and reading. A Graveside Service was held Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at the Beverly Cemetery in Beverly, WV. A Memorial Service will be held on September, 7 at 1 PM at Tabernacle United Methodist Church in Poquoson, Virginia. Memorial contributions can be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church.
