Lt. Col. William Adrian (Ret.) Jones Obituary
POQUOSON - Lt. Col. , William Adrian Jones (Ret), 72, a long time resident of Poquoson, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014. Lt. Col. Jones proudly served his country for 22 years in the US Army. During his prestigious military career, Lt. Col Jones piloted Chinooks and Hueys, including two tours in Vietnam, earning him a Purple Heart. Upon retiring from military service, Lt. Col. Jones pursued a second career in logistics with Newport News Shipyard. William was known for his love of adventure in the form of world travel, his great love of music, new and old and his abundant sense of humor. Known to settle in during quiet times and work on his extensive coin collection, research his next "dream" car, he was just as likely to be found enjoying his new found love in the simple enjoyment of Karoke. He was a multifaceted man that lived his life to the fullest. William was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Jones; his parents, Adrian Jones and Betty Marsyla; and his sister, Catherine. He is survived by his loving family: son, Jeff Jones and wife Weezy and their children Rio and Roxy. His daughter, Jenny Jones Defendeifer and husband Derek and their baby boy Finn. The family will receive friends Wednesday, from 6-7:00 PM at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 PM, by Rev. Milford C. Rollins and Rev. Mike Hardin. Burial will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made to Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
