Madelynne was born Sept. 18, 1922, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She was the daughter of Ila Withers and her husband, Jim. She grew up in Detroit and later moved to Suffolk, Va. There, she met the love of her life, Donald Baals, whom she married on June 26, 1943. To all, but most especially to her family, she was an outstanding example of a devoted wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don, who was her best friend for more than 70 years. She is survived by a son, Robert Baals and wife, Lani, of Yorktown, and three daughters, Karen Stiff and husband, Walter, of Corolla, N.C.; Patricia Rudd and husband, Robb, of Richmond, Va., and Donna Gurley of Tulsa, Okla.
