HAMPTON - LEMAK, Marjorie Bowen, of Hampton, VA, died May 25, 2014, at the age of 91. Marjorie was born June 26, 1922 in Waterbury, CT of Harry M. and Mary Butler Bowen. Her spouse, Steve Lemak, Major USAF (Ret), preceded her in death. Three daughters, Dianne Pons of Hampton, Virginia, Marjorie Jackson of Austin Texas, and Susan Lemak of Brooklyn, New York, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive Marjorie. She was a dedicated military spouse, loving mother, NYC professional fashion model, Roman Catholic Church volunteer, Military hospital volunteer Grey Lady, Congressional staff volunteer, Girl Scout Leader, and world traveler. Marjorie was an accomplished athlete which included Tai Chi, cycling, sculling, Water Safety Instructor, Special Olympics swimming coach, and markswoman (S&W .357). In her 60's she received SCUBA diver certification and appeared on the cover of NAUI Dive magazine. She resided in Olivenhain, CA for many years and in 2001, she moved to Hampton, VA, residing in the Arbors, Newport and Coliseum Virginia Health Services residences. Altmeyer Funeral Home provides arrangements. A grave site service and interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
