NEWPORT NEWS - Mark Wilson Grant, 59, worshipped his way into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at St. Paul AME Church in Newport News, Va.|
Mark was a graduate of Huntington High School Class of 1971. Shortly after graduating he pursued a career in the military where he served in the U.S. Army for 16 years. Upon returning home he became employed with Newport News Shipbuilding and obtained employment with Dan Daniels Distribution (AAFES), where he remained until his passing. While working for AAFES, Mark supported the troops during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Mark was a member of St. Paul AME Church and served in several ministries.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn (Evertee) Grant and grandparents, Mark and Martha Grant.
He leaves to cherish his legacy eight siblings, Cassandra Favor, Gail Grant, Deacon Keith Grant (Almeria), Steve Grant (Sheila), Darryl Grant, Milton Grant, Deacon Reginald Grant (Rogerlyn) and the Rev. Sherman Grant (Pamela); one uncle, Deacon Merriel Grant (Alice); one aunt, Jacqueline Whitehead; multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 11a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at St. Paul AME Church, 2500 Chestnut Avenue, Newport News. The Rev. Donald White, pastor, The Rev. Sherman Grant officiating. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Family and friends are at 1031 Topping Lane, Hampton, Va., and will assemble there by 10:15a.m. Saturday for the procession to the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Paul AME Church Capital Campaign Fund.
