NEWPORT NEWS - 1sgt. Retired U.S. Army McClellon "Mack" Whitt age 73, departed this life on Sunday Feb. 2, 2014. Born on Sept. 26, 1940 in Hazard, KY. He proudly served his country for 27yrs, spending 2 tours in Vietnam. Mack was a recipient of many awards including the Bronze Star, Master Parachutist and 3 Purple Hearts. He was past commander and chaplain of DAV Chapter 2. He was also a member of the American Legion, Post 0368, and a Life Member of the M.O.P.H., Chapter 607, the Krypton Masonic Lodge # 905, F & A.M.. Mack was all American, loved baseball and apple pie, and spending time outdoors hunting and fishing with family and friends. Mack was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed, loved and never forgotten. McClellon Whitt was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Della Whitt; brothers, Jackie, Claude, Alvin, Kermit; sister, Della Sue; and son, Wesley. He leaves to cherish his wonderful memory of his wife, Mattie; son, Larry (Denise); daughter, Joy Lynn Fischer; grandsons, Zachary and Eric; granddaughters, Rebecca and Rachel; great-grandson, Tyler; brothers, Isiah, Fallon and Cecil; and many family and friends. The family will receive friends Thursday, February 6, 2014, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday, at 2:00 p.m. in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veteran's Cemetery with full Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any . Arrangements made by Peninsula Funeral Home.
