WILLIAMSBURG - LTC Gerald A. Harrison, Ret. USA, 75, passed away peacefully at his home in Williamsburg surrounded by family Saturday, March 15, 2014. Born in Wichita, KS, he was the son of the late Col. Willard E. Harrison and Phyllis Putnam Harrison. He was a 1963 graduate of Southern Mississippi University and a CPA. Mr. Harrison proudly served his country for twenty-six years until his retirement in 1986. A decorated U.S. Army veteran, Army Ranger, and Senior Parachutist, he served in the Vietnam war and was a Purple Heart recipient. In his retirement, he was an avid golfer, Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus, and Past Grand Knight in the Third Degree KOC. Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Nellie Jean Harrison of Williamsburg; his daughter Cynthia Rebecca Harrison of Raleigh, NC; his son David Hugh Harrison and wife, Jennifer Leigh of Annapolis, MD; his daughter Leona Paige Harrison and husband, Francis Dyer of Raleigh, NC; his sister Patricia Wahus and husband, David of Pisgah Forest, NC; his sisters-in-law Jane Harrison of Fairfax, VA, and Donna Harrison of St. Petersburg, FL; his brother-in-law Paul Hopkins of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren Angelica Bell and husband Shane, Savannah Gregory, Jacob Liam and Lilly Ashlin Dyer; great grandchild Dalton Bell, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Col. Willard E. and Phyllis Harrison, brothers Lt. Col. Willard Harrison, Jr. and Capt. James R. Harrison, sister Judith Hopkins, and niece Lynn Hopkins. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA on Friday, March 21, at 11:00 AM. A private burial will be at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery at Amelia, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in his name to Riverside Hospice, 12420 Warwick Blvd., Suite 6E, Newport News, VA 23606.
