NEWPORT NEWS - Richard Arlen Pollock, 72, died on Saturday Sept. 14 at his home in Newport News, Va. He was born on April 13, 1941 in San Antonio, Texas to Nannie Maude (Hightower) and Isidor John Pollock, the third of seven children. He graduated from Highlands High School and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959 where he proudly served his country for the next 20 years. He retired in 1980 as Master Sergeant on the Tactical Air Command Security Police Staff, Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, Va. During those 20 years he earned both Bachelors and Masters Degrees. He then began a 20 year career in Civil Service as a Security Specialist with the U.S. Navy retiring in 2001 as Director of Security at Joint Warfare Analysis Center Dahlgren, Va. During his 40 years of Military and Civilian service to the United States, Richard traveled all over the world. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bobby, and niece, Darla Owens, all of San Antonio, Texas. He is survived by his wife Brenda and their children, Mark, Liam, Richard, Siobhan, and grandson Jesse, also by his sisters, Betty Owens (Lee), Anne McKenzie (Stephen) and Dora. Brothers, Chuck Pollock (Becky), Larry Pollock and their respective families. The family will receive friends Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at 6 p.m. at Peninsula Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Father John David Ramsey officiating. Richard will be laid to rest in San Antonio, Texas on Friday Sept. 27 following a service at Mission Park South, 1700 SE Military Drive San Antonio, TX 8214. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with Father Frank Kurzaj officiating.
