HAMPTON - Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.) LTC Richard F. Johnson. Jr. 87 a resident of Hampton, VA. passed away Sunday, August 4, 2014. He was born to Richard Johnson and Elenora Fleming December 2, 1926 in New Orleans, Louisiana. LTC Johnson earned a bachelor's degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA., and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the United States Army. His service to his country included 31 years of honorable distinction in which he was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War as well as the Vietnam War, and received various awards and decorations for his service. He was also a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha and Retired Officers Association. He is survived by two sons, Chris Johnson and his wife Karen their children Candice, Cory and grandchild Aiyana Marriott of Whitby , Ontario Canada. Ben Johnson of Hampton, VA, and a step son, Carlton L. Hazell III and his wife Denise of Hampton, VA. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Rosana Johnson and a host of nephews and nieces, Rosemary Johnson, Elnora Johnson, Milton J. Johnson, Jr, Judy Johnson, Frankie Johnson, Furell, Turrell,Lowrell, Surrell, Dorerell, Makia, Quincy, Emonia, Keymond, Veronica, Kalin, Junay, Juessa, Magan, Alissa, Joanell. A special thanks to his niece Rosemary, who cared for him in his last remaining months that allowed him to live a dignified and peaceful life. "Col" Johnson, Pops, Father Johnson, Uncle will be greatly missed by all. Love Ya, Col. Johnson!
