RICHMOND - Robert Ellis, 61, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Chippenham Hospital.
He was born Dec. 4, 1950 in Norfolk, Va., the son of the late Robert and Agnes Ellis. He was the oldest of three siblings. He served his country in the U.S. Navy and later as a detective with the Newport News Police Department. He retired from the police department, after 13 years of service. For the past eight years, he was employed by United Parcel Service, Inc. (UPS). He was a member of the Warwick Masonic Lodge No. 336, as well as a member of the ACCA Scottish Rite Kedive Temple of Newport News.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Ellis; daughters and son-in-law, Stephanie and Tony Lee of Newport News, Stephanie Armistead and Mandy Leigh; two sisters, Lisa Hussain and husband, Mohammad of University Place, Wash., and Sandra Fallon and husband, Joe of Goose Creek, S.C.; granddaughter, Madisen 'Cookie' Lee of Newport News, and three additional grandchildren; a nephew, Agustin 'Aguie' Hussain of University Place, Wash.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. tonight, May 23, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street, Glen Allen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and immediately following the service at 2956 Hathaway Road, Richmond, Va.
