Thomas Lambuth Turner Obituary
NEWPORT NEWS - Thomas Lambuth Turner,86, died peacefully on June 30, 2013. He was born in Lynchburg, VA August 23, 1926 to the late Rev. Virginius Rudder Turner and Lelia Ligon Turner. He lived his first eight years in Korea where his parents were missionaries. Upon returning to Lynchburg, he graduated from E.C. Glass High School and attended Duke University and University Of Richmond assigned to the V-12 Navy Unit. He served in World War II stationed aboard the U.S.S. Vestal in the Pacific Theater. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1946, he returned to graduate from University of Richmond in 1949. He belonged to Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He made his career as a Radio and Television Account Executive first in Lynchburg with WLVA. He relocated to Newport News in 1971 to open the Peninsula Sales Office of WNOR FM99. He later worked for WKEZ in Yorktown until his retirement. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and Peninsula Sales and Marketing Club. He received numerous service and achievement awards. While in Lynchburg he was an active member of Court Street United Methodist Church and later Warwick Memorial United Methodist church in Newport News. He is survived by daughters Linda(Vincent) Pletnick of Mathews.VA and Susan(David)Irwin of Newport News; two sons, Thomas Lewis Turner of Newport News and William David Turner of Norfolk, VA; two grandsons, Brenden Suarez and Zackarey Turner and one great grandson, Joshua Michael Turner; a sister-in-law, Ethel Turner of Norfolk, Va. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 Wednesday July 3, 2013 at Peninsula Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts can be made to the Southeastern Virginia or to the S.P.C.A. of your locality. The family expresses deep appreciation to the staff at The Gardens of Warwick for the skilled and loving care provided to Mr. Turner during his residence.
