HAMPTON - Tourgee Harding Bryant, Sr., age 59, of Hampton, Virginia went home to be with our heavenly father on Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Sentara Careplex Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 5, 1954 and was the eldest child of Mary W. Bryant and the late Wilbert H. Bryant. Tourgee received his early education in the Hampton Public School System and later attended St. Emma Military Academy in Powhatan, Virginia and Miami Military Academy in Miami, Florida. He returned to Hampton for his senior year and graduated from Hampton High School in 1974. He continued his education at Thomas Nelson Community College for a short time before joining The U.S. Marine Corp. Tourgee loved his family, the Washington Redskins, cooking, working in the yard, and was gifted in art. One of his proudest moments in life was seeing his daughter, Monica graduate from Hampton University. He participated several times in the Paralyzed Veterans of America National Veterans Wheelchair Games, where he won multiple gold, silver and bronze medals in basketball, bowling, discus, javelin, and the shot put. Tourgee was preceded in death by his father, Wilbert H. Bryant and granddaughter, Diamond N. Bryant. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Deborah J. Bryant; his mother, Mary W. Bryant; two daughters, Nicole M. Bryant and Monica R. Bryant-Howell (Quincey); one son, Tourgee H. Bryant, Jr.; two sisters, Deborah C. Bryant-Beal and Leahmaria Bryant. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Anthony Barbour, Jaylen Howell, Devin and Brittany Bryant; two nephews, Michael L. Bryant, Sr. (Nicole) and Marquis Bryant; one niece, Elizabeth G. Beal; one great-nephew, Michael L. Bryant Jr.,one sister-in-law, Ann P. Jarvis; one brother-in-law, Raymond Jarvis (Martha), and a host of other loving nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at First Baptist Church Hampton, 229 North King St, with Rev. Dr. Richard W. Wills, Sr. officiating. Interment will be held on Monday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday beginning at noon and the family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Services entrusted to Ronald C. Perkins Funeral Home, 251 W. Queen St, Hampton, Virginia.
