NEWPORT NEWS - Retired Air Force CMSgt. Charles Donald 'Don' Naylor, 77, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 11, 2013 with his family by his bedside. He was born in Frederick, MD and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1984 as an Air Traffic Controller. He earned two Master Degrees, one in Human Relations and another in Public Administration, a Bachelor's Degree in History and additional military honors. After retiring from the Air Force, he taught high school history and air traffic control and sociology in college. At the time of his passing, he served as the vice president of the Tuskegee Airmen Tidewater Chapter. His parents, Ollie and Mary Naylor, three sisters and a brother predecease him. He is survived by his wife, Mary D. Naylor, six children; sons Charles D. Naylor (Pamela) of Omaha, NE; David L. Naylor of Newport News, VA; Dana M. Naylor of Hampton, VA; daughters Isa D. Hill and Deanna M. Naylor of Newport News, VA and Charlene D. Naylor-Hudgins (Michael) of Yorktown, VA and two grandchildren, Michael and Inessa Hudgins of Yorktown, VA; a brother-in-law, David Sappington and a host of nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 5:00 pm Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 230 33rd Street, Newport News, VA by Msgr. Walter C. Barrett, Jr. Arrangements are by Cooke Brothers Funeral Home, Newport News, VA. Burial is being planned at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to the Saint Vincent de Paul Social Ministries or to the Tuskegee Airmen Memorial.
