NEWPORT NEWS - William A. (Billy) Colbert Jr., 69, passed away in his home on Feb. 19th of a sudden heart attack. Billy was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and an Army Veteran who retired from property and antique sales. In 1979 he was awarded a still standing, World Record Citation for the largest amberjack ever caught. He loved animals and took care of any living creature he came across. He was preceded in death by his parents, William A Colbert Sr. and Addie M. Colbert. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Cathy Colbert; sisters, Caryn Pierce of Toano, and Cynara Colbert of Newport News, and his brother, Jere Colbert of FL. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 23 at 6:30 p.m. at World Outreach Worship Center, 1233 Shields Rd, Newport News, VA 23608. The service will be followed by a gathering in the social hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in his name, to the Newport News SPCA or the Heritage Humane Society of Williamsburg. Arrangements are in the care of Peninsula Funeral Home.
