HAMPTON - William Feick passed away Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at the HVAMC Palliative Care Unit in Hampton, Va., after a short battle with cancer. As a World War II Veteran, he was greeted, fittingly, at Heaven's gates at sunrise on Veterans Day.
The Guest Book is expired.
William was born in McKeesport, Pa., on May 8, 1925. He resided in Hampton for more than 60 years.
He earned the Bronze Star and several other citations while serving in World War II. He worked for the civil service at Fort Eustis as an aviation mechanic, where he retired in 1980. He was a long standing member of the Elks Club. William was very involved with his church congregation at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and as an usher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and his wife of 44 years, Ruth Whitted Feick.
He is survived by one brother, Norman E. Feick, of McKeesport; the love of his life for the past 18 years, Joan Weeks; two sons, Alan Feick (wife Audrey) and William Feick (wife Cecelia); six grandchildren, Brian Feick, Shannon Rawls, Laura Daniels, Ashley Feick, Brittany Feick, and Brandon Feick; and two great-grandchildren, Skylar Rawls and Kieran Feick.
William will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was the patriarch of the family and took pride in the joy and success of those he loved.
While in good health, William enjoyed traveling, poker with the guys, coffee at Krispy Kreme with his dear friends, dancing, and visits from family. He never missed an important event, a birthday, or a holiday gathering with family.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton by the Rev. Peggy B. Beulow. A brief graveside service will follow at Hampton Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hampton VA Palliative Care Unit. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
