SMITHFIELD - William G. Barlow, 81, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2014. He was a native and lifelong resident of Isle of Wight County, the son of the late Johnnie Bernard and Bettie Savage Barlow. He was born on the farm and made a career as a self-employed farmer. William was also an accomplished carpenter and woodworker, electrician, and plumber. Enrolled in Smithfield Baptist Church Sunday School in October 1933, William was considered the longest living member of the church. He was an active duty veteran of the US Army for 2 years and returned home for reserve duty for a number of years. Since May 2013, William's wife of 51 years, Catherine "Kitty" Crocker Barlow, precedes him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Marian Dotson (Dexter); two sons, Adam G. Barlow (Kristina), Robert A. Barlow (Lois-Elaine) and; grandchildren, Bradley Wayne Dotson, Katherine Leigh Barlow, Courtney Leigh Dotson, Samantha Elizabeth Barlow, and Grace Mikayla Barlow. William is also survived by his siblings, Bernard L. Barlow (Virginia), Betty Anne Bryan (Donald), Thomas G. Barlow (Ann), and Carl W. Barlow (Patricia); and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Family and friends will gather 6:00-7:30 pm, Friday, September 5, in Smithfield Baptist Church for visitation. A service celebrating William's life will be conducted 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 6, in the church, followed by interment in St. Luke's Memorial Park. The family suggests memorial donations to the
