Craig Ackerman

Craig Ackerman, 79, of Charlottesville, formerly of Wintergreen, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2012, at his residence.

He was born on August 12, 1932, to the late John R. and Winifred Holt Ackerman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Holt Ackerman. Craig graduated from Michigan State University in 1955, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. His business career included Exxon Mobil, Allstate Insurance and JPMorgan Chase. Craig enjoyed bird hunting with his golden retrievers and fishing with his two sons. His favorite pastime was taking trips to northern Quebec and Ontario to fish for northern pike.

After retiring from JPMorgan Chase, he and his wife, Sarah, moved to Wintergreen, Virginia. He became a volunteer ambulance driver for EMS and served on the Wintergreen Partners, Inc. board for six years.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sarah Ackerman; his two sons, David Ackerman and his wife, Anna Towns, of Charlottesville, and John R. Ackerman and his wife, Ellen, of Hudson, Ohio; and granddaughters, Nina, Casie, Moira and Wren. He is also survived by a nephew, Kyle Ackerman; and two nieces, Linda Ackerman and Ellen Riccardi.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at University Village.
