Alfred J. "Al" Klein

AGE: 72 • Mt. Arlington

Alfred J. (Al) Klein passed away after the fireworks, surrounded by his family during the early hours of Friday, July 5, 2013 at Hackensack University Medical Center after a one year battle with Leukemia. He was 72 years of age. Mr. Klein was born in Jersey City and raised in the Oak Ridge section of Jefferson Township. Following his marriage to Judith (nee Ritzer) in 1971, the family settled in Mount Arlington. In 1979 Al, Judy and daughter Kristy moved to Merritt Island, FL, staying for several years before returning to Mount Arlington in 1989. Mr. Klein was a US Marine Corp Veteran having served from 1959-1963 while stationed at Camp Lejeune, SC. Mr. Klein retired from Picatinny Arsenal in 1999 with 35 years of Federal Government service. Shortly thereafter he began working for Subsystems Technologies where he remained employed until his diagnosis with Leukemia last July. Mr. Klein was a member and past Exalted Ruler of the Dover Elks (B.P.O.E.), the North Star Masonic Lodge of Wharton and a volunteer for the Mount Arlington Fire Department. He was an avid golfer and member of the Picatinny Golf League. He was a great Father, friend, mentor and leader who touched and influenced the lives of all that knew him, as was evident by the visitors to his bedside in his last hours.

Al was pre-deceased by his wife Judith A. (nee Ritzer) in 2005. He is Survived by his daughter Kristy Klein Boonton, NJ), Niece Dawn Dean and Grand Niece and Nephew Shannon and Brandon Dean (Lake Hopatcong) as well as Two Sisters Delores Fisette (Horseshoe, NC) and Joan Winnon (Baystrop, LA) and his devoted companion Linda Davidson.

Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9pm on July 10 at the Bermingham Funeral Home, 216 S. Main St., Wharton. A funeral service will be held on Thursday 10am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Stanhope Union Cemetery, Stanhope.
