Frank Albert Winkler

AGE: 73 • Flanders

Frank Albert Winkler, 73, of Flanders, NJ, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at CareOne at Madison Avenue in Morristown, NJ. Frank was born on November 14, 1940 in Trenton, NJ, to the late Albert and Helen (Laird) Winkler. He has lived in Flanders since 1969. Frank lived in Pennington, NJ and spent summers lifeguarding in Normandy Beach, NJ. He graduated from Central High School of Hopewell Township in Pennington, NJ and attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA for 2 years. While at MIT, Frank was inducted into the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Frank graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA in 1962. He married the former Kathleen Speer on December 19, 1964. Frank received a Masters Degree through the National Science Foundation at New York University (Masters of Arts in Mathematical Scholarship). He taught mathematics at Manasquan High School from 1961 through 1964. He then began teaching at Millburn High School and taught various levels of mathematics from 1964 through 2006. While at Millburn High School, he served as Math Supervisor and Department Head.

Frank is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Speer) Winkler; his daughter, Laurie (Winkler) Thurtle and her husband Timothy Thurtle of Millersville, MD, and his son, Brian D. Winkler and his wife Erica of Westport, CT; his granddaughter, Helen K. Thurtle and his two grandsons, Michael C. Winkler and Matthew D. Winkler; his two brothers, Albert Laird Winkler of Newport, MI and A. Louis Winkler of Woodbury, CT.

A Celebration of Frank's Life will be held on Thursday, March 13, 2014 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the William J. Leber Funeral Home, 15 Furnace Road (Corner of Rt. 206), Chester, NJ (908) 879-3090. Funeral Services and interment will be held privately by the family.
