John T. 'Jack' Fahy, Age 83, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013 at his home. John was born in Orange and grew up in Newark before moving to Parsippany 56 years ago. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Parle DE 708 from 10/22/1948 until being honorably discharged on 10/20/1952. John was self employed as a Steel Contractor for over 40 years throughout the Tri-State area before retiring in 2008. John served as Mayor of the Township of Parsippany-Troy Hills from 1974-1981. Prior to serving as Mayor, he was a member of the Town Council for four years, and he was also a member of the Planning Board. During his tenure as Mayor, John facilitated the development of Senior Housing and Transportation in Parsippany, the expansion of the Township Recreation Programs and Facilities, secured Green Acre funding for the preservation of the Knoll Country Club and Golf Course, and he was also instrumental in initiating the first Child Day Care Center in Parsippany. He was a member of St. Christopher RC Church, a charter member of the Catholic War Veterans of St. Christopher's Church, a member of the American Legion Post 249 in Lake Hiawatha, a former member of St. Peter the Apostle RC Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus 3680 in Parsippany, and he was a 4th Degree Knight of the Walter J. Barrett Assembly 0659.
He was predeceased by his parents, Patrick and Delia; and his brothers, James and Peter J. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret 'Peggy' (nee-Leslie); his sons, John M. 'Jack' and his partner Robert Anderton of Stockton and Gerald and his wife, Cathleen of Jefferson; his brother, Frank M. of Fords; his sister-in-law, Mary Fahy of Lake Hiawatha; and by his cherished four grandchildren, Erika, Jodi, and Dan and Kate Flynn; and his two treasured great-grandchildren.
