Ralph Kice Smith
Ralph Kice Smith died September 9th with his wife Yvette and daughter Sue by his side. Ralph was born February 16, 1924 to Fred and Ellen Smith. He grew up in Mt. Hope, NJ., and graduated from Penn State University. Ralph entered the navy shortly after graduation and was discharged from active duty in 1946. After his discharge, and college graduation, he started work at Bethlehem Steel Corporation where he worked until his retirement in 1982 as Vice President in charge of Purchasing. Ralph married Marion McCarthy June 14, 1947, they had five children together. Marion passed away in 1981. After his retirement Ralph started to travel - a lifelong ambition. He shared a trip to Florida with Yvette McCarthy and they fell in love. They were married on November 23, 1983.
Ralph and Yvette settled in Yvette's house in Mt. Hope where Ralph became known for cleaning up roadside litter in the neighborhood on his daily walks. Together Ralph and Yvette travelled all over the country and the world. For many years they spent their winters in Florida where Ralph continued picking up litter on his daily walks.
Ralph was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Newell and Harry, and his eldest son, Fred. He is survived by his wife, Yvette; eight children, seventeen grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, September 28 at St. Bernard's Parish in Mt. Hope, New Jersey. There will be a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please send donations to
