Renate W. (neeWolf) Abe, 81, of Montville, passed away on Thursday, June 20th, 2013 after a stroke at St. Claire's Hospital in Denville. Renate was born in the German Bohemian city of Reichenberg (Now known as Liberec, Czech Republic) on November 30, 1931. She immigrated to New York City from Austria in her 20's and was naturalized in 1962. She worked for Nelson Rockefeller and subsequently married, Dr. Donald Kazuhito Abe of Japanese descent and moved to Montville to raise a family. Multilingual (German, English, Czech with some French, Russian, Spanish, Italian language skills), she earned a BA in Linguistics from Montclair State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Renate subsequently became a high school teacher and then worked in the import/export shipping industry up until her 70's. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved swimming, skiing, bridge, crossword puzzles, ballroom dancing, world travel, wolves, her beloved cats, Ozzie and Oscar, and Martinis.
Renate is survived by her two children, Darren Abe and Karen Abe-Vicich and two grandchildren, Alexandra Vicich and Evan Vicich. Family and friends will dearly miss the charming and exceptionally unique Renate.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 13th, 2013 at noon followed by a reception to celebrate her life at in the Pfeiffer Room at the Madison Hotel located at One Convent Road, Morristown, NJ 07960. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to be made in her memory to one of her favorite organizations, the World Wildlife Fund (www.worldwildlife.org) for the protection of endangered wolves.
