William T. Selikson

AGE: 89 • Lake Hiawatha

William T. Selikson, 89, died Tuesday evening, March 19, 2013 at Care One at Morris in Parsippany. Born and raised in Youngstown, Ohio, he came to the Lake Hiawatha section of Parsippany in the 1950's. Mr. Selikson served in the United States Army infantry during World War II. He participated in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland and was awarded a Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge and 3 Bronze Stars for his service. He earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Ohio State University. Mr. Selikson had worked briefly as a teacher and principal in Ohio. Following his move to NJ, he worked in the same capacity with Rockaway Township Schools, and later Dover Schools from which he retired as principal in 1987 following 24 years of service. He was a member and past commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Disabled American Veterans, the NJEA, NEA, and the Morris County Retired Educators Association. He was also a member of the Dover Kiwanis Club and the Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Elizabeth (nee Patrick); four children, Raoul Patrick Selikson of Jersey City, Paul Louis Selikson of Lake Hopatcong, Rosalind Eyerman and her husband William of Parsippany, and Elizabeth C. Selikson-Nowicki and her husband David of Long Valley; a sister, Rachel Klotz of California; and three grandchildren, Daniel Eyerman, and Zachary and Amanda Nowicki.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Friday, March 22, 2-4 & 7-9pm at the S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Rd., Lake Hiawatha (973-335-4700). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 23, 11:00am at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, Parsippany. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
