Clair E. "Sarge" Fink, 89, was called home to be with his heavenly father on Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, 2013. Funeral service will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 4221 Boonville Road, Bryan, Texas 77802 with the Rev. Randall Bard officiating. Interment will be 3 p.m. Friday Nov. 15, at Nat Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday Nov. 14, at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Clair was born Sept. 24, 1924, in Westgate, Iowa the son of Ernest and Bertha (Greaning) Fink. He attended classes in Upper Iowa University. In 1944, Clair entered in the U.S Army, during his military career he received many awards. He spent time in Korea serving in various theaters. His final assignment was at the ROTC Program at Texas A&M University, where he held the rank of Command Sergeant Major until his retirement in September 1966. After retiring from the Army, Sgt. Fink worked in Payroll and Student Financial Aid offices at Texas A&M, where he retired in 1985. During his life, Sgt. Fink was an active member at Bethel Lutheran Church serving on various committees. He was a member of the Bryan Evening Lion's Club serving as president for several years and a wonderful supporter of Still Creek Ranch. Sarge is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Gloria Fink; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachel and Virgil Wedemeier, Julia and Ray Oltrogge, and Vernon Wedemeier. He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Phyllis Fink of Kent, Wash., Richard and Jo Fink of Fairbank, Iowa; sister, Joan Wedemeier of Oran, Iowa; numerous cousin; nieces and nephews; and a special friend who helped care for him in recent years, Barbara Jones of Bryan, Texas. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at St. Joseph's Manor, Bethel Lutheran Church family and all his friends at Watercrest for their love, care and support of Clair.
