Mr. Garth Donald "Don" Sitton, age 72, passed away Oct. 24, 2013, at his residence after a battle with cancer. He was born in Beaumont, Texas on June 10, 1941, to parents G.B. Sitton and Buene McLain Sitton. Mr. Sitton was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Melissa Sitton. Don is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Franki; daughters, Lee Welch and husband, David, and Carmel Myers and husband, Jim; sons, Garth James Sitton, and Grant Sitton and wife, Leslie; grandchildren, Samantha Welch and Jackson Sitton; mother, Buene McLain Sitton; brother, Ronnie Sitton; nieces; a nephew; and his beloved pet Yorkie, Rita. Don was the kind of man who never met a stranger. He graduated from Nacogdoches High School and joined the United States Navy where he served his country for six years. Upon his release he came back to Nacogdoches to attend Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated with his bachelor's degree. He then went to Louisiana State University where he earned his master's. He enjoyed teaching at Panola College. In 1972, he began his career in cattle and poultry farming and continued until his illness prevented him from working. Don was a member of GBU Hunting Club. He was smart, fun to be around, always had something good to say and loved his family. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at Nat Cemetery on FM 343 with Doug Clark offering the eulogy. Family and friends are invited to visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Cason Monk-Metcalf, 5400 North Street in Nacogdoches. Pallbearers will be Glen Anderson, Frank Mitchell, Ray Sitton, Phil Lee, Wayne Voirin and J.D. Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be Pedro, Ricardo and Jose Guardado. Memorial contributions may be made to Nat Cemetery Fund, 156 County Road 848, Cushing, Texas 75760-5749; or Accolade Hospice, 2708 University Drive Suite #100, Nacogdoches, Texas 75965-2971.
