H.B. "Jake" Porter

Mr. H.B. "Jake" Porter, 84, of Mount Enterprise, passed from this earthly life on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Nacogdoches Medical Center. He was born Feb. 21, 1930, in Beckville to the late Charlie and Bonnie Ida Simmons Porter. Jake faithfully served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. Upon his return, he went to work for his brother at H.V. Porter Contractors, eventually reaching the position of foreman. Jake was also a member of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, C.B., Elmo, Jaras, Boots, and Henry Vaughn Porter; and three sisters, Zudora Deaton, Daphne Turner, and Opal Ree Wilson. Survivors include his brother, Grady Porter of Omaha, Texas; sister, Charlcy Dean Talkington of Humble; and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Scott Talkington, Kevin Els, Eric Mullins, Tommy Freeman, Harland Mullins and Jimmy Watson. Honorary pallbearers will be John Webb, James Scott, David Schwanke and Tom Tousha. Funeral services for Mr. Porter will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, in the chapel of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with the Rev. James Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at Martin Cemetery under the direction of Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
