Jack Allen Dempsey, 80, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, in Nacogdoches. Jack was born in Cushing, Texas on July 15, 1933. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, on the USS Nicholas DDE-449. He had many gifts of trade and worked as an electrician for most of his life. He was known by all to be a very hard worker and an excellent provider for his wife and eight children. When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed the simple things in life. Jack loved the great outdoors, taking long, scenic drives down country roads, reading western and history books, and he was fascinated with genealogy. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Nolie Dempsey; son, Roy Dean Dempsey; and sisters, Katherine Potter and Cleo Leger. Jack is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 51 years, Betty Dempsey; sons, Jack “Bo” Dempsey Jr. (Kelley) of Nacogdoches, Wesley Nichols (Beverly) of Garrison, Mark Dempsey (Anna) of Pearsol, Texas; daughters, Kelly Dempsey, Shelly Rios, Cherry Baker (Richard) of Nacogdoches, and Dana Hernandez (Peter) of Rosenberg, Texas; brothers, Phillip (Sonny) Dempsey of Cushing, Texas, James Mack Dempsey of Longview, Texas; sisters, Imogene Williams of Cushing, and Faye Davis of Bullard, Texas; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to Sophie Shields, Brandee Best, Jessica McMillan, Kathy Payne and Rita McGowen of Accolade Hospice of Nacogdoches, and to Garrel Faulkner, Mark Saintignan, and staff of Oak Manor Nursing Home for the wonderful love and care they gave to our dad. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at Laird Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Terry Hodge officiating. Laird Funeral Home.
