Funeral Service for Mary Carolyn Porter, 70, of Douglass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2013, in the Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Cushing, Texas, with Bro. Jerry Newton and Bro. Michael Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Douglass Cemetery. Mrs. Porter passed away Sunday, May 12, 2013, at her home in Douglass. She was born Feb. 11, 1943, in Lufkin, Texas, to Oscar and Mary Loyce Hearn Allen. She lived in Douglass for 40 years. She was a member of Alazan Congregational Methodist Church and attended Faith Bridge Methodist. She played piano and the organ, earned a Bachelor of Science from University of Texas Galveston and was a x-ray tech for over 40 years. She worked for Nacogdoches Medical Center for 18 years. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, James Lee Porter. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Lana Porter, and Jay Porter and Kaye Williams, all of Mount Enterprise, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Andy Abernathy of Slocum, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law, Georgia and Thomas Elmer of Lufkin, Texas, and Regina Johnson of Madisonville, Texas; and grandchildren, Dakota, Bailey and Madison Porter, and Lindzey, Andrew and Gracie Abernathy. Pallbearers will be Lance Porter, Jerry Baker, Randy Baker, Andy Barrett, Jimmy Elmer and Chris Elmer. Honorary pallbearer will be Jeff Stripling. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the funeral home in Cushing. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in honor of Mrs. Porter to First Bank and Trust in Nacogdoches, Texas. Dickie Allen Funeral Home.
