J.L. Saucier

MIRE - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for J.L. Saucier at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013, in the Assumption Catholic Church in Mire, LA. Rite of Committal will follow in the Assumption Church Mausoleum. The Reverend Michael Arnaud will be the celebrant of the Mass.

Mr. Saucier, age 82, died at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

J.L. served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. When he returned home from the war, he attended T.H. Harris Technical Institute for upholstery. In 1960 he owned and operated Saucier's Upholstery for 53 years. He was also well known as the owner and operator of Jay's Lounge in Cankton which was world famous for cock-fighting and special entertainers such as Clifton Chenier, Asleep at the Wheel and many more. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his special companion for 25 years, Bernice Guidry, of Church Point, LA; his children, Carlos Saucier and wife, Sandra, of Cankton, LA; Darcus Saucier Goodwin of Cankton, LA; Donna Saucer Schexnayder and husband, Danny, of Arnaudville, LA; his step-children, David Broussard and wife, Debbie, of Cankton, LA; Donovan Broussard and wife, Sonya, of Duson, LA; Lane Broussard and wife, Kris, of Cankton, LA; James Broussard and wife, Cathy, of Cankton, LA; Jimmy Alleman and wife, Evelyn, of Cankton, LA and Thelma Credeur of Rayne, LA. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his sons, Carl Randy Saucier, John Dell Saucier; his grandchildren, Chas Michael Saucier, Brandon Jude Saucier and his brothers, Gussie Saucier, Vionel Saucier, Atwood "Yat" Saucier and Johnny Saucier.

Visiting hours will begin on Thursday, May 2, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and will resume on Friday morning from 8:00 a.m. until service time. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
