GRAND COTEAU - Funeral services will be held Monday, March 11, 2013 at a 3:15 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Borromeo Roman Catholic Church for John Tate, age 75, who passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at 10:30 p.m. at his residence in Grand Coteau.

Interment will be in St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau. The Rev. Thomas Madden, S.J., pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, will officiate at the services.

Mr. Tate was a native and lifelong resident of Grand Coteau. He was employed with St. Charles College in Grand Coteau for 56 years. He was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard for 15 years and volunteered as a firefighter with the Grand Coteau Fire Department for 25 years.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Ann Stelly Tate of Grand Coteau; three sons, John Randall Tate and wife, Patricia, of Breaux Bridge, Ray A. Tate and companion, Theresa Bihm, of Church Point and Shane Tate and companion, Scott Curry, of Sunset; two daughters, Brenda M. Kennerson and husband, Perry, of Grand Coteau and Rhonda A. Stelly of Sunset; eleven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great grandchildren and one on the way; five brothers, Ira Tate and wife, Shirley, of Opelousas, Wilson Tate and wife, Bernice, of Sunset, Leroy Tate and wife, Marie, of Grand Coteau, J.L. Tate of Marksville and Nelson Tate and wife, Randi, of St. Martinville; and two sisters, Louella Knott of Carencro and Bertha Wilks and husband, John, of Cankton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Tate and the former Yola Stelly, both natives of Arnaudville and one brother, Allen Joseph Tate.

A rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Monday.
