Louis Burgess Melancon

OPELOUSAS - Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Melancon Funeral Home in Opelousas for Louis Burgess Melancon, age 80, who passed away Monday, March 10, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, MS.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. in Green Oaks Memorial Park Cemetery in Baton Rouge.

Mr. Melancon was a native of Ville Platte and a resident of Opelousas. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Opelousas. Mr. Melancon was a veteran of the military having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired as the business owner of Atlas Supply Company. Louis was also a musician and a comedian who entertained everywhere he went. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include one son, Rocky Louis Melancon and his wife, Lori, of Grand Bay, AL; four grandchildren, Joseph Anthony Louis Melancon and his wife, Holli, of Columbus, GA, Paul Nathanial Melancon of Las Angeles, CA, Phillip Jonathon Melancon of Mobile, AL and Christopher Shane Rogillio and his wife, Lauren, of Mobile, AL; three great grandchildren; and one sister, Norma Jean Melancon Rotten and her husband, David, of Schriever, LA.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Claudette West Melancon; his parents, Clifford Melancon and the former Adele Soileau, both natives of Ville Platte; one daughter, Roxanna Marie Melancon; two brothers, Tillman James Melancon and Joseph Clifford Melancon; and four sisters, Grace Fontenot, Gerry Ortego, Emily Fontenot and Ruby Martin.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 8:00 a.m. Saturday until service time on Saturday and to meet in the Green Oak Funeral Home Lobby at 1:30 p.m. prior to graveside service.
