LEONVILLE - Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, LA for Mr. Norman Israel Chavis, 85, who entered eternal rest on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at American Legion Hospital, in Jennings, LA.

Interment will be in St.Leo the Great Catholic Church Cemetery. Pastor Ken Domingue, SVD will officiate the services.

Mr. Chavis is survived by his loving wife, Ruby Auzenne Chavis, of Opelousas; three sons Eric Andre of Opelousas, Norman Dwane of Honolulu, Hawaii and Ron Christopher (Jada) of Opelousas; two daughters Ann Karyn C. Harris (Antonio) of Washington, LA; Lisa Renee' Chavis, of Prairie Laurent and one brother Charles Larry Chavis (Jeanne Lastrapes-Chavis) of Prairie Laurent. Cherishing Mr. Chavis's legacy are 14 grandchildren; Erica, LaTysha, Aris A., Aramis, Cherica, Briana, Ashton, Alyx, Arlis, Sydni, Ari, Jillian, Addison, and Xander; two great grandchildren, Gabe and Milah; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and special friends.

Mr. Chavis was preceded in death by his parents Mr. Israel "Bruno" Chavis and Ida Donato Chavis and sisters Katherine Chavis and Theresa Sittig.

Mr. Chavis, an Army Veteran, served in the Korean Conflict and was a fifty (50) year member of the American Legion. He was a retired Vocational Mechanical Instructor of T.H. Harris in Opelousas.

Visiting hours will be observed from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. in St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville, Louisiana.
