Mr. D'Avy died on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the age of 81 at his home in Opelousas with his family and friends by his side. Mr. Sylvan retired from the St. Landry School System after 30 years of service. In his lifetime he worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture overseeing plant pest control, National Forest and the processing of foods. As a retired school teacher, Sylvan delighted in meeting former students, hearing of their adult accomplishments and endeavors. He was very proud of the part that he played in their lives. Mr. D'Avy was "the unforgetable" biology teacher to so many. To his family and friends Sylvan was the unique, loquacious one who loved to teach lessons and tell stories. Sylvan enjoyed the times he spent with his family and friends; he is going to be sadly missed by all that knew and loved him.
Mr. Sylvan is survived by his son, Richard D'Avy and wife Elisa of Del Rio, TX; daughter, Jennifer Ellen D'Avy of Sunset; sister, Lillian Jacqueline D'Avy of Cave city, KY; grandchildren, Richard "Ricky" D'Avy and Erin Cecilia D'Avy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Jeanne Marie Ducote D'Avy, Sr.; son, Perry Alan D'Avy; brothers, Clayton D'Avy, Jr., Gayle D'Avy; sisters, Earlene Dolores Bond and Gloria Ellen Acker.
Mr. Sylvan's family would like to thank Betty and Lee Cormier for their untiring assistance, love and dedication, along with Sylvan's Godson Donald D'Avy and Drs. Montgomery and Cole, and La. Hospice and Palliative.
