Dr. Catherine Payne Chester Obituary
Chester, Dr. Catherine Payne Dr. Catherine Payne Chester, age 87, died on July 9, 2014. She was born March 6, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas to Dr. John Buist Chester, and Catherine Payne Chester. She graduated from the Fassifern School, Hendersonville, North Carolina, and went on to receive her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After college, she worked as a Physical Therapist. She later went on to study medicine, receiving her Medical Degree from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical School, and conducted her Residency at Children's Medical Center in Washington D.C., becoming Board Certified in Pediatric Medicine, and later, in Immunology. Catherine returned to Dallas to work with her father at the Chester Clinic in Lancaster, and in Oak Cliff. She was a beauty, and well loved by her many patients. She couldn't go anywhere without someone seeking her out to thank her for treating them when they were children. In addition to her professional life, Catherine liked to have fun, taking flying lessons, and sailing her boat on Lake Tawakoni where she owned a cabin. Catherine also loved her German Shepherd dogs, Czar and Bear. Catherine played the piano, sang, painted, sculpted, gardened, and was generally skilled at many pursuits and pastimes. She is loved and will be missed by her family and friends. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her brother, Dr. John Jr. and Hilda Chester of Salem Oregon; brother Martin David and Iris Chester, Houston, Texas; niece Julia Chester, Dallas, Texas; nephews Michael Chester, Astoria, Oregon; John Chester, San Francisco, California; Bryan Chester and Gary Chester, Austin, Texas; and Andrew Chester, Houston, Texas. The family gives special thanks to Erlinda Ramirez for her loving care of Catherine in her last years. Visitation will be held July 18th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Calvary Hill Funeral Home Chapel with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held July 19th at Calvary Hill North Mausoleum at 2:00 p.m., with internment to follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, DeSoto, Texas.
