Abbott, Dan Emmanuel Dan Emmanuel Abbott was born January 22, 1924 in Vernon, Texas and passed into eternity on December 8, 2012. Dan was the son of Roy W. and Ann Abbott. After graduating from Vernon High School and earning an appointment to West Point Military Academy, he opted to attend the University of Texas until being called into the Armed Forces during World War II. Upon his release from the Army Air Corps, he completed his degree work at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, graduating with a BBA degree in 1950. He became involved in property management with Genaro Investment Company before being recalled into the Air Force to serve as an officer during the Korean War. After the war, Dan joined Texas Federal Savings and Loan as Senior Vice President, a position he held until his retirement in 1985. Dan was married to the love of his life, Jimmie Lee Abbott, from 1944 until her death in 2011. God blessed their marriage with three children, Greg Abbott and his wife Priscilla of Plano, Texas, Mark Abbott and his wife Vicki of Richardson, Texas, and Jan Brown and her husband Marty of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They had five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren: Jason Brown and his wife Autumn and their children Ziva and Eden; Jill Hailey and her husband Rob and their children Joseph, Ryder and Caitlin; Amy Carlson and her husband Chad and their children Julia and Blake; Katy Brown and her son Jaxon; and Stephanie Abbott. Both Dan and Jimmie came to faith in Jesus Christ in 1966 and became devoted followers of their Lord, telling everyone they met of Jesus' love and the salvation they had found by believing in Him. They were charter members of Hillcrest Church where they served in many capacities. Dan also served on the board of Tell My People, a missionary outreach organization. Dan's greatest love, after his love for the Lord and his wife, was his family. He left to them a wonderful legacy of love, leadership, generosity, and faith. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in the Restland Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park. The family wants to thank the many friends, church members and especially the wonderful staff of Walnut Place. In lieu of flowers we would ask you to consider a memorial gift to Tell My People, P.O. Box 533727, Harlingen, Texas, 78553.
