Walker, Donald O. DENISON -- Donald O. Walker, 70, passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at Beacon Hill in Denison, Texas. The family will host a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Waldo Funeral Home chapel in Sherman with the Rev. Justin Beadles officiating. Donald was born Nov. 13, 1942, in Van Alstyne, Texas, to Lurline England Wood and Murrell Wood. Donald's life was changed early by World War II when Murrell died in battle in Germany in 1944. Lurline later remarried another WWII veteran, B.R. "Dick" Walker, who used the G.I. Bill to earn a degree from the University of Texas. Dick adopted Donald and raised the family in Whitewright. Donald was quarterback of the 1959 Class B Regional Champion football team and earned a football scholarship to Texas. He graduated in 1965 and went on to teach and coach at Comanche, Center, Richardson High School, Trinity Valley Community College and Texas Tech University. In his later years he worked as a courier. Donald is survived by his mother, Lurline Walker of Sherman; brother Ben Walker of Scottsdale, Ariz., sister Kris Stevens of Sherman; son Brad Walker of Oklahoma City, daughter Emily Bender of Stow, Ohio; and grandchildren Alyson Evan Walker of Cambridge, Mass., Sierra Walker of Fayetteville, Ark., and Bailey Bender and Will Bender of Stow, Ohio.
